Jakarta Prepares Aid for NTT Earthquake Victims

The Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing aid for residents affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The aid is being coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), BUMD, Baznas Bazis Jakarta, and the public.

"Yesterday, we immediately coordinated, and the Jakarta Government will always contribute to helping and easing the burden on our brothers and sisters affected by earthquakes, including those in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra," Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said at Dukuh Atas Park in Central Jakarta on Sunday (8/16).

Social Agency Reaches 104,637 Disaster-Affected Residents

The assistance will later be delivered directly to several cities and regencies. The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently assessing the needs of local communities.

"For NTT, including Maumere and other areas, we are studying where the Jakarta Government can contribute and provide assistance," he said.

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday (8/15), forcing more than 5,000 people to evacuate. The disaster also claimed 47 lives and damaged buildings.

According to BNPB data, the largest number of evacuees in East Nusa Tenggara are currently in Sikka Regency, with 3,356 people. In Manggarai Regency, the number of evacuees has reached 2,078.

Hundreds of other evacuees were also reported in Nagekeo, with around 500 people, as well as in two areas in other provinces, Bima and Selayar Islands.

The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government is also processing a decree to establish a 14-day emergency response period. Similar measures have also been officially taken at the regency and city levels in affected areas.

Meanwhile, Manggarai and Ngada regencies have declared a Disaster Emergency Response status, while East Manggarai Regency has declared a Disaster Emergency Alert status.
